10:00am State of Hawaii partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy. Hawaii would become a testing ground for projects that harness wind, wave, solar, thermal and other renewable energy sources under a unique federal partnership being announced next week. The Lingle administration says the U.S. Department of Energy envisions Hawaii, with its abundant natural resources, as a site that can serve as a model for the rest of the nation as oil becomes scarcer and economies shift to cleaner-burning fuels. The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative is the first federal-state energy partnership of its kind, officials say.

Australia Climate Change Minister Penny Wong will meet the major world polluters in Hawaii this month to try to form common ground on curbing greenhouse gas emissions before the 2009 deadline for a new international treaty to tackle global warming.

The delegates will be staying at the hotel, the restaurants open at 6 am, they must arrive at the East West Center by 8:30, so they will be eating breakfast around 7:00am. Lets join them !

5:00-7:30pm Protest on Beretania Street adjacent to Washington Place. Banners. Signs.

This first community action will set the stage for the summit. We need to highlight that the world must deal with climate change and that voluntary standards outside of the international framework is unacceptable. Coal, Oil, Nuclear and Agrofuels are not part of the solution.

8:30-11:00am- Protest at University of Hawai`i.

NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT BE ON EAST WEST CENTER PROPERTY BUT ACROSS THE STREET FROM IT ON THE LAWN OF KENNEDY THEATRE. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL INFORMATION RELEASED TO EVERYONE EITHER ON THIS LIST OR TO THE PUBLIC IS CLEAR ABOUT THIS. MAHALO.

There will a lot of security there -  both HPD, military, federal & private - so we need to avoid confronting them directly. Remember, we do have the University's okay to be on their property. 

8:30 am Gather at the stoplight on the makai side Dole Street by the metal statues at the kaimuki end of the Law School

8:45 am Cross Dole Street & start marching with signs and banners to East-West Center Road. Make take three light changes to get everyone across safely.  March on sidewalks facing traffic on both roadways.

9 am  Arrive at Kennedy Theatre lawn and set up.

10 am - 11 am Press conference

11 am Break down protest.

12:00 Church of the Crossroads   Bring your own lunch.

3:30-5:00pm Hurricanes in Hawaii, Tom Schroeder, Meteorology, University of Hawaii Hamilton Library Room 301. This presentation might be of interest to learn about the effects of Global Warming with Hurricanes and Cyclones.

4:30 - 5:30 Project Blue Line Old Stadium Park, King Street near Waiola Street
The expected 39 inch sea rise this century will have a major impact on Hawai`i.

Friday February 1

12:45pm – 2:00 pm Lecture on Wetlands U.H. Law School, Classroom No. 2. Denise Antolini (Richardson School of Law Environmental Law Professor ), Kim Diana Connolly (University of Southern Carolina Environmental Law Professor ; Member of the U.S. Ramsar National Committee). Lecture on the importance of wetlands nationally and internationally and the effects global warming will have on them.

Saturday February 2

9:00am-3:00pm  Ramsar World Wetlands Day Celebration at Le Jardin Academy, Kailua – Exhibits, demonstrations, Dr. Kim Connolly – keynote speaker with community and political speakers, free bus tours around Kawainui/Hamakua Wetlands showing where Kailua will once again become and inland ocean bay within the next 100 years.
